I swore off painting forever right after I painted the basement in our new house twice in 24 hours.

I had worked late into the night. I’d volunteered to do it to save the money, since we had splurged on having everything else done for us.  The next morning the contractor decided to surprise me. He was trying to be nice and somehow didn’t notice that the job had already been done.

I found it a completely different color that night. I cried. Then I painted it again, all of it, and swore I would never paint another wall again.  Until last week…

There are certain people in your life that will always be the exception.

I have to admit, it wasn’t so bad. There’s something so satisfying about covering the old yuck up with fresh and new. Good music, coffee, beer…a few hours later you peel the tape away and everything looks different. It kind of makes you feel like you can do anything.

Xochi Solis uses gouche, house paint, acrylic, acetate, colored paper, vinyl, wax and found images to create collage.  Humble materials transformed into something spectacular.

In just a few short weeks a new book comes out by the awe inspiring Danielle Krysa of Jealous Currator.  Xochi Solis is just one of the artists that I love that will be featured.

    • Amanda,
I hardly ever love lots of color, but these have me rethinking that stance.
